Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna Community Investment Tax Credits (CITC)
Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna was recently awarded $25,000 in Community Investment Tax Credits (CITC). This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals and businesses to give to Habitat while saving money on taxes. The program is a from the State of Maryland’s Department of Housing and Community Development.
The purpose of the program is to increase nonprofit-donor partnership. We will leverage these tax credits into a minimum of $50,000 of donations. Each donor over $500 may claim the tax credit on their Maryland income tax for one half of their donation. The credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction of state taxes. On top of that are the charitable deductions already available from the state and federal governments. The bottom line is that the program makes partnering with us easier while providing more tax benefits for our donors, and more beneficial to us. We can accept monthly or lump sum donations toward a total yearly CITC contribution.
The CITC donations will support the Financial Literacy Program, which provides the required financial coaching and classes for our homebuyers. The free classes are also open to the public. This program is especially successful because homeownership is a powerful motivator. Your contribution will change lives and give low-income families in our community hope for the future.
